Pinus excelsa, Wall. (P. nepalensis, Chambr.). Attains 150 ft., with spreading and slightly ascending branches forming a broad open pyramid: branchlets greenish, glabrous, glaucous: winter buds cylindric- pbovate, acute: lvs. slender, flaccid, drooping, grayish or bluish green, 6-8 in. long: cones cylindric on l-2-in.-long stalks, 6-10 in. long; seeds brown, 4 lines long. Himalayas. Gn. 31, p. 195. A.G. 19:149. F.E. 13:664 (pl. 8); 33:113. Gn.M. 6:290. M.D.G. 1903:185. —Handsome tree, of somewhat loose habit, with graceful pendulous foliage, hardy as far north as Mass, in sheltered positions.
