Vriesia hieroglyphica, Morr. (Tillandsia hieroglyphica, Bull.). Fig. 3970. Lvs. many, rosulate, stout, recurved, short-acute, very strongly and irregularly marked and banded with dark green above and brown-purple beneath: infl. paniculate, the bracts broadly elliptic-ovate, the fls. yellowish. Brazil. I.H. 31:514; 42, p. 318. R.H. 1891:400. Gn. 37, p. 244 (adapted in Fig. 3970).—A very striking and showy plant. Sometimes known as a Massangea.
