Hyophorbe amaricaulis, Mart. (Areca speciosa, Hort.?). St. 60 ft. in nature, scarcely so tall in cult., with a bottle- shaped swelling near the base, usually abruptly narrowed near the lf .-cluster: petiole about a foot long, grooved and angled; lfts. 40-60 pairs, about 12-16 in. long and 2 in. broad: spadix about 12 in. long: seed elliptic, about ½ in. long. Mauritius.
