Malope trifida, Cav. Fig. 2307. Plant 2-3 ft. high, bearing rose and purple fls. 2-3 in. across, the center usually darker, blooming most of the summer: lvs. 3-nerved, 3-lobed, dentate, glabrous; lobes acuminate: peduncles axillary, 1-fld. Spain, N. Afr. Gn.W. 25:584. H.U. 2:166. Var. grandiflora, Paxt. (M. grandiflora, F. G. Dietr.), is said to be superior to the type, with fls. large, deep rosy red, veined inside darker. Gn. 21, p. 145. P.M. 1:177. G.W. 15, p. 215. Var. a1ba, Hort., has white fls. Var. rosea, Hort., has rose-colored fls. G. 27:563. Seeds are offered separately in white, rose and red.
