Ornithogalum thyrsoides, Jacq. Bulb globose, 1½-2 in. thick: Lvs. 5-6, lanceolate, 6-12 in. long, 1-2 in. wide, attenuate above, the margin obscurely ciliate: scape ½-1½ ft. high; raceme 12-30-fld., dense, triangular in outline, 3-4 in. wide; fls. self-colored; segms. ovate and strongly imbricate; filaments alternately longer and lanceolate, alternately shorter, dilated above the base and bicuspidate. S. Afr. B.M. 1164 (fls. white, with a brown eye).—In cult., the perianth may be 1 in. long. Var. aureum, Ait. (O. aureum, Curt.), has golden yellow fls. B.M. 190. Var. flavescens, Ker, has pale yellow fls. B.R. 305.—O. kewense, Hort., is a hybrid of O. thyrsoides and the var. aureum: like O. thyrsoides, but color is bright buff-yellow.
