Stephanandra tanakae, Franch. & Sav. (Neillia Tanakae, Franch. & Sav.). Shrub, 5 ft. high, almost glabrous: lvs. triangular-ovate, slightly cordate at the base, abruptly long-acuminate, usually 3-lobed and doubly serrate or lobulate, pubescent only on the veins beneath, 1 1/2 – 3 in. long: fls. in terminal loose panicles, slender-pedicelled, 1/6 in. across; stamens 15-20. June, July. Japan.—Handsome shrub much resembling neillia in foliage, coloring in fall brilliant orange and scarlet or yellow. CH
