A hardy perennial often 2-4 ft. high, somewhat bulbous at the base: lower lvs. oblong, plicate, 1 ft. long, 6-8 in. wide, narrowed at the base; upper lvs. lanceolate: panicle narrow: fls. blackish purple; segms, oblong, obtuse.
