Osmanthus americanus, Benth. & Hook. (Olea americana, Linn.). Devil-wood. Florida Olea. Shrub or small tree, to 40 ft. with whitish bark: Lvs. elliptic to lance-oblong, acute, narrowed into the short petiole, entire, lustrous above, 2½-7 in. long: fls. fragrant, in short panicles, on short pedicels or nearly sessile; corolla-lobes spreading, about as long as the tube: drupes ovoid, nearly 1 in. long.
