Anemone multifida, Poir. Plant silky-hairy, somewhat branched,½-1½ ft. high, from a branched, upright rootstock: main involucre 2-3-lvd., others 2-lvd. or naked, short petioles, similar to the root-lvs., 2-3 times 3-parted and cleft, divisions linear: fls. ½-1 in. across, red, varying to white or yellow: achenes very woolly. Early summer. Rocks and uplands. Middle states to Hudson Bay.
