Magnolia macrophylla, Michx. Large-leaved Cucumber Tree. Tree, to 50 ft., with spreading branches: lvs. oblong-obovate, blunt, subcordate-auriculate at the base, glaucescent and finely pubescent beneath, 1-3 ft. long: fls. cup-shaped, fragrant, 10-12 in. across; petals 6, oblong-obovate, thick, purplish at the base, 6-7 in. long: fr. broadly ovate, rose-colored, to 3 in. long.
