Ceanothus arboreus, Greene (C. velutinus var. arboreus, Sarg.). Small tree, with whitish bark: branchlets at first angled and pubescent, later glabrescent and glossy: lvs. elliptic-ovate, obtusish or acutish, rounded or sub-cordate at the base, closely serrate, with close white tomentum beneath, 1½-3 in. long: fls. pale blue to white in panicles 2-3 in. long. Spring. Isls. off the Calif. coast. S.S. 2:65. CH
