Paeonia tenuifolia, Linn. Fig. 2723. Root or rhizome creeping, tuberous: st. 1-1 1/2 ft. high, 1-fld., densely leafy up to the fl. : lvs. ternate, glabrous, cut into numerous segms. often less than 1 line broad: fl. erect; petals dark crimson, elliptic-cuneate, 1-1 H m- '°ng! M- thers shorter than the filaments; stigma red, spirally recurved: follicles 2-3, about 1/2in. long. June. Caucasus region. B.M. 926. A.G. 17:658. Var. flore- pleno, Hort. (Fig. 2723). Fls. double, crimson. F.S. 4 :308. Var. hybrida, Hort. Fls. of a rich crimson color: lvs. very pretty. CH
