Eucalyptus diversicolor, F. v. M. (E. collosea, F. v. M. E. diversicolor var. collosea, Hort.). Karri. Fig. 1429. Very tall symmetric tree: bark smooth, white: Lvs. dark green and shining above; veins very diverging: lid obtusely conical, not wider than calyx-tube; stamens 4 lines long; anthers ovate, opening by parallel slits: fr. ovoid-truncate, about ½ in. long by 4-5 lines thick; rim rather thick; caps, deeply sunk. Feb.-May, and again in Nov. F.v.M. Eucal. 5:4.—Thrives near the coast but does not endure well the dry heat of the interior: too tender for the San Joaquin Valley. A rapid grower, profuse bloomer, and considered a good tree for bees. Timber very hard, durable, of a light red color, and takes a fine polish: suitable for furniture, wagon work, ties, and general construction. CH
