Daphne oleoides, Schreb. (D. buxifolia, Vahl). Shrub, to 3 ft.: branches pubescent: Lvs. obovate-elliptic to obovate-lanceolate, usually mucronulate or acute, villous- pubescent on both sides or finally glabrous above, punctulate with whitish dots, 1-1½ in. long: fls. in few-fld. heads without bracts, white or pale lilac, with ovate-lanceolate, pointed lobes, ½ in. long. S. E. Eu. L.B.C. 3:299. B.M. 1917.—Very variable in shape and pubescence of Lvs. Var. Fioniana, Hort., with obovate- lanceolate, obtuse Lvs. and lilac fls., is said to be a hybrid between this species and D. collina. CH
