Shrub, to 20 ft.: branchlets glabrous, dark brown: lvs. elliptic-oblong, obovate or oblanceolate, acute, undulate crenate or nearly entire, glabrous, glaucous beneath, 4-6 in. long: catkins sessile or short-peduncled; stamens united or free at base; ovary smooth; style rather long. Wash.
