Bromelia pinguin, Linn. Pingoin of Jamaica. Wild Pine. Three to 4 ft. high: lvs. broad-toothed and spiny, bright green, but becoming pink and red with age: fls. reddish, pubescent, in a dense panicle, with a mealy rachis, the sepals acute: fr. as large as plums, acid. W. Indies. — Makes a good hedge in tropical countries, and the fr. yields a cooling juice.
