Ribes triste, Pall. Swamp Red Currant. Low shrub with creeping or ascending, often rooting sts.: young growth sparingly pubescent and sparingly glandular: lvs. thin, suborbicular, 3-5-lobed, with acute or obtuse, coarsely serrate lobes, dark green and glabrous above, pubescent or whitish-tomentose beneath, 2-4 in. broad: racemes drooping, 1 1/2-3 1/2 in. long; pedicels longer than the ovate bracts; fls. purplish; calyx-tube saucer-shaped; sepals spreading, obtuse; petals reddish: fr. red, smooth. N. Asia and boreal N. Amer., south to Maine and Vt. B.B. (ed.2) 2:237. Var. albinervium, Fern. (R. albinervinum, Michx.). Lvs. glabrous or nearly so beneath. N. Amer., south to N. H., Mich. and Wis.
