Adoxa (Greek, without glory, i.e., humble or obscure). Adoxaceae, but by some authorities placed in Caprifoliaceae and formerly in Araliaceae. A. Mos- chatellina, Linn., the Moschatel, is the only species. It is an inconspicuous herb 3-5 in. high, bearing tubers beneath the ground, with biternate lvs., and small greenish fls. It occurs in England, Cent. Eu., and northward, and in subalpine and arctic regions in N. Amer. It is scarcely cult. but may occur in rock-gardens, being grown for its musky scent. ^CH The above text is from the Standard Cyclopedia of Horticulture.
