Alchornea (in memory of Stanesby Alchorne). Euphorbiaceae. Dovewood. Tropical shrubs or trees with alternate, entire or dentate lvs.: fls. usually diœcious, in elongated slender catkin-like infl.; staminate calyx 4-lobed; stamens 8. One species, A. ilicifolia, Muell. Arg., is rarely grown in greenhouses, and is listed by U. S. Dept. of Agric., as intro. from Austral.
