Begonia imperialis, Lem. Very hairy, low: st. short, herbaceous, green: Lvs. 4-6 in. wide, brownish green, with irregular bands of bright green along the nerves, making a striking contrast: fls. insignificant, white. Mex. I.H. 8:274. Var. maculata, Hort, has brown Lvs. with green blotches. Var. smaragdina, Hort., has wholly bright green Lvs. I.H. 7:262.—These plants require a hothouse treatment in winter.
