Villaresia mucronata, Ruiz & Pav. (Ilex gongonha, Mart.). Tree, usually 40 ft. high, rarely 50-60 ft.: lvs. short-petioled, ovate or elliptic-oblong, apex spinulose, leathery, dark green, shining above, paler and dull beneath: fls. 5-merous, in solitary shortly pubescent thyrses, terminal or in the upper axils, yellowish white; sepals wide elliptic or nearly orbicular; petals elliptic-oblong; ovary by abortion 1-celled: drupe ovoid. Chile.-Prop. by cuttings. Rare in cult.
