Cornus paucinervis, Hance (C. quinquenervis, Franch.). Shrub 4-6 ft. : young branches quadrangular, usually reddish brown: lvs. short-petioled, of firm texture, oblong-obovate to elliptic-lanceolate, acute, cuneate at the base, dark green above, paler beneath with appressed hairs, with 3-4 pairs of veins, l½-3½ in. long: cymes long peduncled; style thickened below the apex: fr. black.
