Cyrtocarpa (Greek, curved fruit). Tapira. Anacardiaceae: One or two Mexican trees, one of which bears a small fruit, likened to a cherry by the natives of Lower Calif. Leaves alternate, compound: fls. axillary or terminal, paniculate, polygamous: fr. an oblique drupe, 1-seeded. Intro, into S. Calif, by Franceschi. Sometimes united with Tapiria (or Tapirira), from which it differs in its straight embryo and other characters.
