Iris atroviolacea, Lange. Lvs. very glaucous, 1 ft. long: st. equaling the lvs.: spathe entirely scarious: fls. dark violet, very fragrant; outer segms. obovate- cuneate, 3 in. long; beard white, tipped with yellow; inner segms. as long, 2 in. broad, orbicular. Late May. —Known only in cult. Probably either I. germanica var. atropurpurea or I. kochii.
