Iris sambucina, Linn. Differs from I. squalens in its less robust habit, narrower segms. and elder-like odor. The outer segms. are colored and veined with claret not lilac-purple; inner segms. emarginate. Late May. Cent. Eu. B.M. 187. (According to Dykes this figure is probably I. squalens, while plate 787, I. squalens, probably represents 7. sambucina.
