Potentilla argentea, Linn. Sts. several, ascending, rarely prostrate, slender, 4-20 in. long, Laxly paniculate or corymbose above, white-tomentose: basal lvs. long- petioled, palmately 5- rarely 7-foliolate; lfts. broadly cuneate-obovate, 4-14 lines long, coarsely and regularly incised-dentate with 2-5 pairs of teeth, margins revolute, from green and glabrous to densely silky or tomentose above, densely white-tomentose beneath, very rarely tomentose and green beneath: fls. long- pedicelled, 5-7 lines broad; petals obovate, emarginate, scarcely exceeding the sepals, sulfur-yellow; carpels glabrous, rugulose; style subterminal, conical, papillose-thickened at the base. June-Aug. or Oct. Eu. and Asia, intro. in N. Amer. Good for dry, sterile Boil. Var. calabra. Sir. (P. calabra, Ten.). Lfts. dilated-fan-shaped, incised on outer edge, whitened on both sides: plant low: sts. stout, declined, condensed- cymose: fls. relatively large. Italy.
