Rhopaloblaste (Greek, dub or pestle, and embryo). Palmaceae, tribe Areceae. A small group of Old World tropical palms of little horticultural significance: sts. simple, unarmed, crowned at the top by a large cluster of equally pinnatisect lvs.: lf .-segms. acuminate, 1-nerved: spadix appearing from among the lvs., much branched; stamens 6: fr. ellipsoid, red. Cult, as in chrysalidocarpus.
