Senecio lugens, Richards. An herbaceous perennial, floccose-woolly when young but becoming nearly or quite glabrous: st. practically naked above: lvs. oblong-obovate to lanceolate, 1 1/2 - 6 in. long, 1/2 - 1 in. broad, repand-denticulate, the lower narrowed into a winged petiole: heads relatively few, radiate, including the yellow rays 1/2 – 1 1/4 in. diam.; bracts of the involucre as well as the subtending bracteoles acute, black-tipped: achenes striate, glabrous. W. N. Amer. in the Rocky Mts. from Mont. to Alaska. —A species very little known horticulturally. CH
