Solenanthus (Greek, tube and flower, referring to the form of the corolla). Boraginaceae. Gray-villous hirsute or rarely glabrous perennial herbs, hardy and suitable for border planting: lvs. alternate: racemes sometimes elongated and simple, sometimes short, scorpioid, densely-fld., and numerous in terminal panicles: fls. blue or rose; calyx 5-parted, segms. narrow; corolla tubular or funnelform, 5-lobed, the lobes small, obtuse; ovary 4-lobed, distinct: nutlets 4, depressed.—About 20 species, S. Eu., W. Asia, and Russia. CH
