Spiraea betulifolia, Pall. Low, much-branched shrub: lvs. oval to obovate-oblong, usually cuneate at base and very short-petioled, serrate or crenately serrate, obtuse, glabrous or slightly pubescent on the veins beneath, 3/4 – 1 1/2 in. long: corymb usually glabrous, 1-2 in. across. June, July. Siberia to Manchuria, Kamchatka and Japan.—The three preceding species except S. virginiana are all closely allied and considered by some botanists varieties of S. betulifolia. CH
