Vicia americana, Muhl. American Vetch. Fig. 3929. Perennial, trailing or climbing, 3 ft. long, nearly or quite glabrous: lfts. 8-14, elliptic to oblong, obtuse or sometimes emarginate at the apex: fls. purplish, about 3/4 in. long, in few-fld. loose racemes: pods 1 – 1 1/4 in. long; seed brown, 1/8 in. diam. Moist lands across the continent and as far south as Ky. B.B. 2:2614.— Has been offered by dealers in native plants.
